Chapter 1: First Met

In my memory, when I was 14, my aunt found a little stray puppy at a rubber estate. The puppy was brown in colour, and she had a pair of black eyes. My aunt brought the little puppy to my house. The little puppy’s body was full of wounds and scratches. Me and my aunt brought the puppy and rushed to a veterinary clinic. Under the treatment and my care, the puppy getting better and better day by day. My aunt gave the puppy to me as my little pet. I named the puppy as Cookie. Every day when I went back home from school, Cookie must run towards me excitedly and licked my cheeks. I played with Cookie every day. I brought Cookie to park, playground, or vacant land to take a walk and play balls. Soon, Cookie knew another puppy, Billie at the park. They fell in love at first sight. Every evening, I would bring Cookie to the same park. Cookie would meet the Billie that dated with her at that park. Then one day, Billie’s owner decided to move as his superior made plans for him to go to a new city for his work. The owner would bring Billie to the new place together, that meant Cookie could not see Billie anymore in the future. Cookie was broken-hearted during that period. She did not eat anything, did not go out and play. Even her favourite toys and plushies, she did not look at them. This worried me and my family a lot about her. But there was no other way for this. All we could do was keep accompanying her, caress her, and talk to her. Day by day, Cookie became much more cheerful and happy, and she was growing up as well.

Chapter 2: The Cookie was Missing!

People said that one year of humans, equals to seven years of dogs. We all knew that seven-year-old children were playful and active, some were naughty as well, dogs were the same. When Cookie was seven years old, she went missing! One day, when I was back from school, Cookie did not come and welcome me. I thought it was weird. Grandma told me that she seemed to see Cookie slipped out from the main gate. Grandma could not chase after Cookie because she was too old, she was not able to run. Grandma tried to stop Cookie to go out by calling her name loudly, but Cookie was still running out from home. I was shocked like a bolt from the blue when I heard this. I did not even eat the lunch, the first thing I did was rush out to find Cookie. My heart was bumping so fast and I could not calm my anxious mood down. I looked for Cookie at the park, the playground, the vacant land, my neighbours’ house, and every place that I used to bring Cookie there. But there was no Cookie’s whereabouts at all. From 2pm afternoon to 8pm night, I was looking for Cookie, but I could not find her. I was so tired and disappointed. With sobbing eyes, I walked back home listlessly. My parents comforted me once I got home. They said ‘You must eat something and rest well. Don’t worry too much, maybe Cookie is just looking for Billie? She probably will come back on her own tomorrow morning.’ After the dinner, I trailed myself off and went for the shower. It was time to sleep, but I was tossing and turning, and could not sleep at all. I was so worried about Cookie; would she be caught by bad person? Would she have a place to sleep? Would she have food to eat? Would she feel cold? Would she feel helpless? While I was thinking about this and that, it was already three o’clock in the morning. I was fagging out and fell asleep deeply. That night, I dreamt. I dreamt of Cookie. Cookie and Billie were playing at the park. They were playing balls, running together, chasing after butterfly.

Chapter 3: The Cookie was Found!

Woke up from that dream, it was 9am. I washed up myself and had my breakfast. Then I went to the park that I dreamt of, but still, I could not find Cookie. I had found every place that Cookie probably would go, but I could not even see a shadow of hers. A thought suddenly crossed my mind, lost dog notice. I rushed back home as quick as I could to print it. A reward of RM2000 would be offered to anyone who found my Cookie. Soon after, I received a lot of calls saying that Cookie was found. However, those were fake, they did not see Cookie at all, they just wanted the RM2000 reward. I was extremely disappointed. I really wanted to see Cookie right now! I continued looking for Cookie for hours until 5pm. When I reached home, something hopped on me. I felt something was licking my face, it was wet and sticky. I heard a barking sound. It was my Cookie! Cookie was back! I was so happy, I was so excited, and my tears flowed down unconsciously. I gave Cookie a hug, a big hug. I hugged him tightly. My parents just came back home from their work at this moment. They were so glad from the bottom of their hearts when they saw me and Cookie was hugging. That night, I had a very good appetite. I ate a lot for my dinner. I gave Cookie her favourite meat and she gobbled up the meat like she had not eaten for a few days. And then I gave her her favourite milk and cookies. I bathed Cookie after having the dinner. She was so excited and kept jumping at me. Since this incident happened, I had become more protective of Cookie. Cookie also learnt to be obedient, and she no longer simply left the house.

Chapter 4: Room Make Up

It was a Sunday morning, I was woken up by my phone alarm. As usual, I checked my smartphone for any new information, and then I went to the powder room for wash up. Since it was Sunday, I didn’t have school. I decided to clean up my messy room and changed the old room decoration. I tied my hair up and got ready for this major event. I first swept the floor because there were too many hairs. Then I started to wipe off those dust that was on my racks. When I was halfway through, I heard Cookie was scratching my door. I opened the door and let her in. I thought that she wanted to clean up with me. I was sorting the photo albums while explaining the story behind those photos to Cookie. Cookie kept turning her head, she was trying to hear me and understand my words. This action was too cute and I couldn’t control myself to knead her face. Few hours later, Cookie felt bored, she went out from my room and went to find my grandma. My grandma was watching television show, she carried Cookie in her arms and patting her head. After sorting out everything, I swept the floor again and then started to mop the floor. Cookie came into my room again! I just mopped the floor, and now there were Cookie’s footprints everywhere in my room! Cookie looked at me with her puppy-eyed eyes like she was expecting me to pat her. Willy-nilly, what I could do was ask Cookie to go out first, then I mopped the floor again. And then I decorated my room with some green plants and some small aesthetic decorations. I took some aesthetic-looked room pictures from Pinterest as the references for my room decorations. After settling all the decorations, my room looked all new to me. It was exactly what I expected for my room. I was so satisfied with the final look of my room, but I was so exhausted and was brow breaded with sweat. I went to the living room to cool down myself as I wanted to take a bath later. At this moment, Cookie came and tried to lead me to the kitchen. When I arrived at the kitchen, Cookie turned her head to point at the kettle. She knew that I was thirsty! I was so shocked and astonished; I didn’t know that Cookie could do this. I patted her and gave her a hug; I gave her a little snack as a reward. After that, I went for my bath.

Chapter 5: ‘Detective’ Cookie

I went into the bathroom. While I was looking at the mirror to check myself, I found that there was something weird about myself. It was like something was missing on me or anything. I looked into the mirror closer and carefully, as it turned out, the chain bracelet that I wore day and night since primary school was gone. I thought that the chain bracelet had fallen while I was cleaning the room. So, I didn’t think too much of it and I continued for my bath. My body was so sticky as I had been sweating a lot. I quickly took off my clothes and let the shower water splashed on me. Soon, I finished bathing. I wore my clothes and left the bathroom. I immediately ran into my room to find my chain bracelet. Under the bed, inside the cupboard, on the racks, inside the drawer, nothing was found. Just when I was down, Cookie walked towards me. It was like she knew that I was worrying. She started to smell the floor, my bed, my clothes pile, …… At first I had no idea of what she was doing, I thought she was finding a place to urinate. A few moments later, Cookie brought something shining to me. I took a close look, it was my chain bracelet! Cookie found my chain bracelet! She brought me to my room and turned her head to point at my clothes pile. She was trying to tell me that she found my chain bracelet in my clothes pile. I was so surprised that she had this kind of ability. I thought every dog needed to be trained to have this kind of skill. I kept praising and caressing Cookie, and I gave her a bowl of her favourite warm milk. After finishing the milk, I brought Cookie out to the park that we usually went for a walk.

Chapter 6: Food Poisoning

It was a rainy day, it was like the sky wept as it was grieving. As always, I went back from school by walking. As the result, I became a drowned rat. I rushed into the bathroom immediately when I arrived at home. After bathing, I saw my grandma was wiping the floor. I asked her what had happened. She said Cookie kept vomiting since morning, now it was already the third time. Cookie was laying on her cushion, she looked very unwell. Grandma caressed Cookie gently to let her feel better, while I dialled my dad and asked him to bring Cookie to veterinary clinic. 20 minutes later, my dad arrived at home and I brought Cookie into the car. I carried Cookie in my arms and patted her gently for the entire journey from my house to the veterinary clinic. Cookie kept whimpering; I was about to cry as I saw Cookie was under such uncomfortable situation. In the car, Cookie vomited again, luckily I prepared a plastic bag for Cookie to vomit. This was the fourth time she had been vomiting. Dad speeded up his car to shorten the time of the journey. Soon, we arrived at the veterinary clinic. Dad was queuing up for the registration, while I was carrying Cookie on my seat. A few moments later, the nurse called Cookie’s name, it’s Cookie’s turn for the diagnosis. The veterinarian was an old man, he looked very experienced. The moment he saw Cookie, I felt like he did know that what Cookie was suffering from. The veterinarian diagnosed Cookie carefully. It was food poisoning. The veterinarian said Cookie was suffering from food poisoning. I tried to recall what did I gave to Cookie but I couldn’t think of anything that was harmful to dogs. The veterinarian said he found some components of garlic and onion in Cookie’s body. Garlic and onion could cause dogs to suffer from gastroenteritis. Then now I recalled back, I gave Cookie a bowl of fried rice yesterday as her dinner. I didn’t know that dogs couldn’t eat garlic and onion, I only knew that chocolates are harmful to dogs. I was so remorseful for what I did. My dad comforted me and told me not to blame myself. The veterinarian said that many people did that too and asked me to be at ease. He prescribed some medicines for Cookie and asked us to bring Cookie back to the veterinary clinic two days later for the continuous treatment. After taking those medicines, we brought Cookie back home. I fed Cookie the medicines once we arrived home. Cookie did not like the taste and smell of the medicines, she kept turning her head away and pushed my hands away to avoid taking the medicines. No choice, I must feed Cookie the medicines for her recovery. I patted Cookie gently to alleviate her nervousness. She slowly ate the medicines while I praised her for her courage.

Chapter 7: Well Recovery!

Cookie was getting better and better these days. Soon, it was two days later after the first diagnosis, it was the time for Cookie for her second treatment. We brought Cookie to the veterinary clinic again. We did the same process as last time and waited for Cookie’s turn. There were not many people, so our turn came quite quickly. The veterinarian checked for Cookie, he said that Cookie was about to recover. All we needed to do was keep feeding Cookie those medicines on time and give her some light food for this period. Along the period, I gave Cookie only milk and dog food for her all-day meal. Sometimes she didn’t want to eat those food, she was feeling bored towards them, as she ate exactly the same meal every day. Gradually, Cookie returned to normal. She could run, jump, bark, and play as usual. I gave Cookie the meat that she had been longing for since the first day she was checked for suffering from food poisoning. I was so glad that Cookie could recover so fast and well. Through this incident, I learnt a lot of knowledge about dogs. What a dog could eat and what a dog could not eat. I was so sorry to Cookie for letting her have such a hard time.

Chapter 8: ‘Ex Couple’ Reunion

It was a summer day in year 2019, Cookie was 21 years old this year. Remember Billie? The doggy that dated with Cookie before. His owner was back from the city that he had been worked for two years. He brought Billie back together too. I saw them at the park that I brought Cookie for walk every day. After chit-chatting with Billie’s owner, I knew that he wouldn’t move to other place again in this short term. Cookie was barking so loudly when she saw Billie. The moment Cookie and Billie saw each other, they barked like they never barked before. That was a fidgety noise for me, I was afraid of loud noise. Me and Billie’s owner let the two doggies to date as they didn’t see each other for two years. Now finally they could meet each other again. Like two years ago, I brought Cookie to the park every evening. We must meet Billie and his owner at the same park every day. That park became a dating place for Cookie and Billie. Months, I saw Cookie’s belly was bigger than before, but I didn’t give too much food to Cookie; I was wondering what was going on. However, I didn’t give too much attention on it, I thought it was just Cookie got fat.

Chapter 9: Cookie was Pregnant?!

Cookie’s belly was getting bigger and bigger for months. I found that it was weird, so I asked my dad to send Cookie to the veterinary clinic. After diagnosis, the report showed that Cookie was pregnant! Cookie? Pregnant? It was unbelievable! It must be Billie! Cookie had Billie’s baby. The veterinarian told us to take good care of Cookie. This period Cookie would be very weak as she was pregnant. We told Billie’s owner about this, and he promised to pay half of Cookie’s medical bill. That meant me and my dad would pay for half of the bill, and Billie’s owner would pay for another half of the bill. He was so excited that Cookie was pregnant, he could not wait to see the little new-born puppies. Billie as a dad, he brought different kind of food to Cookie every day. Of course, we knew that the food were prepared by his owner. Soon, Cookie was going to give birth to the small puppies. My dad took her to the veterinary clinic for her birth giving. Three hours later, all the new-born puppies were successfully birthed. The most important thing was that Cookie was safe and sound. There were three little puppies in total. One was white in colour with some brown dots, it was a male puppy. Another one was totally brown in colour as Cookie, it was a female puppy. And the other one was also white in colour but there was one part of white on the face, it was a male puppy too. Billie’s owner was so happy to see those cute little puppies, me too.

Chapter 10: Cute Little New-borns

After giving birth, Cookie was very weak. She needed to eat healthier food for her to stay healthy and to recover well. She needed to rest with her puppies, bond with them and feed them. Cookie needed a quiet and comfortable space for her recovery. I named those puppies as Lexus, Julie, and Oreo. I named them by referring to the brands of biscuits that I liked. Day by day, the puppies were growing up and Cookie was getting matured. We could see the differences in the puppies’ personalities as they grew up. Lexus was a bit timid; he was afraid of strangers and afraid of light out. Julie was very clever; although she could not get the thing she wanted, she still could think of many other methods to reach that thing. Oreo was very brave; he would bark at people who made him uncomfortable, and he could be friends with anyone very quickly; he was not afraid of strangers.

Chapter 11: Happy Family

In the blink of an eye, it was already the year 2022. All the puppies had become adult dogs. That meant in my house, there were four adult dogs now. I am so glad and grateful that my aunt gave me Cookie as my pet; same goes to my parents and grandma, thanks to them for letting me to raise Cookie, until now with her little ones. I hope that Cookie, Lexus, Julie, and Oreo can always be healthy and happy; free from getting sick and in pain for a lifetime. Again, it is one of the luckiest things to have Cookie in my life. I love you Cookie.
